world sailing comes to Kep

The Cambodian National Sailing Federation in conjunction with the Kep Sailing Club welcome World Sailing Singapore to Kep this week for five days of both theory and practical sailing and windsurfing training.

We are honoured to welcome Mr. Joseph Chan from World Sailing Singapore , Head of Training and Development of the Singapore Sailing Federation, Joseph Chan, has been appointed by World Sailing as the Regional Development Coordinator for the Asian region.

Chan becomes one of a total of six World Sailing Regional Development Coordinators in the world, whose responsibilities include growing sailing as an option for life-long leisure pursuit, raising the quality of the coaching and instruction of sailing, and raising the level of competitive sailors for youth, continental, world and Olympic competitions.

The plans that Chan has mapped out include organising World Sailing’s Technical Courses for Coaches, identifying suitable candidates for the World Sailing Training Scholarships, assisting other Member National Authorities (MNAs) in developing a national structure for sailing, and identifying suitable facilities that can serve as training centres for the region. A veteran in sailing, the 67-year-old is a two-time Olympian and a three-time Southeast Asian (SEA) Games medalist.

There will be 24 students and coaches from the Cambodian Sailing Federation joining Kep’s sailing staff and trainees. The Kep Sailing Club is committed to introducing the art of sailing to the youth of our region and Cambodia in the hope that one day they will represent their country at regional and global sailing competitions.
